Many people ask what is the difference between a LCD versus Plasma flat panel television.
LCD TVs have a clear, bright image better than most plasmas even under different light conditions. Both Plasma and LCDs perform well in darkened rooms, but LCDs have a slight advantage under brighter conditions. With their anti glare screen, LCD TVs look great in almost any situation.
While older Plasma TVs came in larger sizes, the LCD TVs outperformed in the smaller 13 inch to 37 inch range. Today with improved technology, both types do well. LCDs models are available now as big as 65 inches. Of course, the bigger the screen the larger the price tag.
Older Plasma HDTVs had a better viewing angle while the LCDs lost some contrast when the viewer moved to the side. Images looked gray and 'washed-out' and some colors had a subtle shift. Todays LCD HDTVs no longer have that problem.
The newer LCD HDTVs offer a wide range of uses. They can serve as a computer monitor, a game console, and of course a first rate LCD HDTV. The older models also had some motion blur and many games played on the TV required a 12-15ms response time to avoid streaking. However, newer models have overcome the motion blur problem.
Today, LCD HDTV vs Plasma HDTV is on a level playing field. The choice comes down to price, reliability, and quality.
